Exploring Christianity

If you are just exploring what Christianity is all about, we'd love to help you find out more. We run a seekers' course, based on the Y Course, at Westgate, to help introduce people to what we believe, and give them a chance to ask any questions. Please contact us or come along to the church to find out more.

In the meantime, why not read this short explanation?

God loves me

The first thing you need to know is that God loves you. There's nothing you can do to make God love you more or less than he does at the moment. It doesn't matter what you've done in your life - God loves you!

I have sinned

We've all done wrong things (the Bible calls these things sin) - maybe not massive things - but when we live for ourselves rather than doing what God wants, it is sin. This destroys our relationship with God, and can do with our friends and our families too - in the end the Bible says that sin leads to death.

Jesus died for me

You probably know already that Jesus died on a cross, but do you know that he did it for you? If you accept that the penalty for sin is death, then we all deserve to die, because we've all sinned. But God did something amazing for you because he loves you so much - he sent his son, Jesus, to die in your place - so that you can have eternal life.

I need to decide to live for God

God has done his bit - he's done all he can to show you how much he loves you and how important you are to him. Now it's your turn to decide what to do about it. God is offering you love and forgiveness for ever. You just need to accept that you've lived life for yourself rather than for God, ask God for forgiveness, and decide to live the rest of your life for him. It's up to you.

What next?

If you've decided to live the rest of your life for God, want to talk or pray with someone about it, or are still think about what it all means, please contact us. Alternatively, come and join us at one of our services on Sunday or sign up for the next seekers' course.
